What to expect at your appointment.
A clear guide so you know what happens, especially if this is your first wax or you like to know things in advance.
Before you arrive
If it’s within your capacity, I recommend showering or washing beforehand. If that’s not possible, a body wipe is absolutely fine. Just come as you are.
Please let me know if you’re running late. Otherwise, aim to arrive around 5 minutes early so I can help with parking and getting settled.
Arrival
I’ll meet you at the gate and bring you into the studio. You’ll sit on the sofa and complete (or check) your consent form.
We’ll talk through your treatment, experience level, goals, and any questions or sensitivities you might have. Nothing is rushed.
You’re welcome to a drink or snack, and you can bring your own or request one at any point.
What waxing actually is
Waxing is hair removal by pulling the hair out from the root.
It can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful, but it’s very quick. Most people describe it as short, sharp, localised pain that lasts around 4–5 seconds per pull, often with a warm or slightly burning sensation afterwards.
The wax itself is warm. It can sometimes be scented or coloured, and I usually keep both available — including a plain, hypoallergenic option for more sensitive skin or personal preference.
If hair is too long, I may trim it with scissors first. If it’s too short (generally under ~1.5–2cm, or about the size of a grain of rice), the wax may not be able to grip it properly.
During your treatment
You’ll be shown to the treatment bed and made comfortable using blankets, cushions, and towels so you feel covered and safe.
If you’ve brought someone with you, a privacy screen can be used so they can stay in the room without seeing the treatment if you prefer.
There is usually music playing, but you can request something specific or ask for silence.
I’ll cleanse and prep the area first. I mostly use hard wax for more sensitive or intimate areas, and soft wax with strips for larger areas where appropriate.
Wax is applied in the direction of hair growth and removed quickly in the opposite direction while the skin is held taught. I apply pressure straight after each pull, which can help reduce discomfort — but you can always ask me not to.
We continue like this until the treatment is complete.
Afterwards, I apply a soothing lotion or oil to calm the skin.
After your treatment
You’ll have time to get dressed, and we’ll go over aftercare (I will give you a card with it on too) and take payment if it hasn’t already been sorted.
I’ll check you’re okay before you leave and offer anything you might need for the journey home.
A review on my website or Facebook is always appreciated, and I usually recommend rebooking around 6 weeks for best results.
You’re always welcome to message me after your appointment if anything comes up.
